What is internal infrastructure penetration testing?

Internal infrastructure penetration testing starts from the assumption that someone is already inside your network, through phishing, a compromised device or a malicious insider, and asks how far they could get. Incursion tests internal networks for UK organisations on site or through a remote testing device, delivered by named consultants with UK Cyber Security Council professional titles.

What we test

Active Directory and identity: misconfigurations, weak credentials, privilege escalation paths and the routes to domain administrator.

Network segmentation: whether the boundaries between users, servers, management networks and sensitive systems hold.

Patching and configuration of internal hosts, verified rather than reported.

Credential handling: password reuse, stored credentials, service accounts and legacy protocols.

Lateral movement: what a compromised standard user account can reach.

Optional starting points: an unauthenticated device on the network, a standard user account, or a specific compromised host.

Why it matters

Most serious breaches are not about getting in; they are about what happens next. An internal test shows whether one compromised laptop means one compromised laptop or the whole estate. It is the test that most often changes how an organisation thinks about its own network.

How we run it

01

Scoping. Your account manager and an active penetration tester work with you to agree the scope of your test on a scoping call. The quote is fixed to it.

02

Testing. A named, suitably qualified consultant does the work, and you get a direct line to them before, during and after the engagement. Critical and high-risk issues are verified and reported immediately.

03

Reporting. Easily digestible summaries sum up the whole engagement and support detailed technical findings, written so your team can replicate and fix them. Delivered within 5 working days.

04

Free retesting. One day of free retesting for every five days of consultancy, taken within 90 days of report delivery, so you can be sure the fixes worked.

Scoping notes

Internal testing can be done on site, over a VPN, or through a small testing device we send you to plug into the network; it is your choice. Tell us the starting position you want: no credentials, a standard user, or a specific scenario. We agree which systems are fragile or out of bounds before we start.

What you get

A named consultant with a UK Cyber Security Council professional title, who scoped the work and delivers it.

A report within 5 working days: executive summary, technical summary, and observation, impact and remediation for every finding.

Immediate notification of critical and high-risk issues, once we have verified them.

Free retesting: one day for every five days of consultancy, within 90 days of the report.

A walkthrough call with the consultant for your team, on request, at no extra cost.

Frequently asked questions

Do you need to be on site?

Only if you want us to be. We can test on site, over a VPN you provide, or through a pre-configured testing device we send you that connects back to us over an encrypted channel. Client preference decides.

What starting point should we choose?

A standard user account is the most realistic, because it is what a phishing victim gives an attacker. An unauthenticated start shows what a visitor or contractor could do. We can do both in one engagement.

Will this affect our production systems?

We agree exclusions and fragile systems before testing and avoid disruptive techniques by default. Domain-wide attacks are only run with your explicit agreement.

Ready to scope a test?

Book a call. Our sales team will set it up and handle the proposal; an active penetration tester agrees the scope with you. No obligation.
